Life in the town of Mount Pleasant is downright … well, pleasant.
There’s plenty to be proud of in this city of 4,500, not the least of which are its Mayberry vibe and friendly residents.
With the help of community members, the city has launched some events and programs aimed at bringing folks together and calling attention to all that’s praiseworthy.
One of the most recent additions is Mount Pleasant Citizen of the Month - an award given to someone who has contributed to the town over time or who has done something recently that’s a big deal. The first Citizen of the Month award went to an 89-year-old woman who has lived in Mount Pleasant all her life, and a recent winner was a 12-year-old girl who collected soft-drink tabs for Ronald McDonald House. The award is presented each month at a city council meeting, and the recipient is honored with a certificate and recognition from the mayor.
One of the most popular community events is the farmers market, which takes place during the summer in the City Hall parking lot.
These are simple ways for people to get to know their neighbors and reconnect with the town they live in, officials say.
