Maury Regional Hospital Adds More Doctors, New Facilities and Programs

Maury Regional Hospital

Maury Regional Hospital

Maury Regional Hospital is already known as a top-quality medical center‚ but its goal is to continuously improve services for the 250‚000 residents it serves in the southern part of Middle Tennessee.

“We have to be better tomorrow than we are today‚” says Robert Otwell‚ chief executive officer of Maury Regional Hospital.

If 2006 was any indication‚ Maury Regional is right on track.

Seventeen physicians were added to the staff‚ community service reached an all-time high‚ and physical improvements were completed.

One of the hospital’s major accomplishments was the opening of a new neonatal intensive care unit through an agreement with Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. The eight-bed NICU is staffed with two physicians specializing in neonatology‚ four neonatal nurse practitioners‚ and 15 registered nurses trained at a higher level of newborn care.

“We’ve gotten a great response from parents of babies who have been able to use the NICU‚” Otwell says. “Before‚ they frequently had to go to Nashville and most often to Vanderbilt for these services. Being able to bring the great Vanderbilt services to MRH is a real plus for the people we serve.”

The biggest project‚ started in 2006‚ is the newly renovated and greatly expanded emergency department – a $10.5 million project that will more than triple the size of the department to 32 treatment rooms and 30‚000 square feet of operations space. The improvements will include new software expediting diagnostic results.

“We’re doing this in two phases‚” Otwell says. “The first phase‚ the new construction‚ should be completed in spring 2007‚ and the renovation of the current ER is scheduled to be finished in October.”
