Maury County Fast Facts
In the years between 1810 and 1860, plantations flourished in Maury County, each with its own majestic home. Nearly 300 historic sites still remain standing in the county.
Columbia, Mount Pleasant and Spring Hill are the main cities, but other communities in Maury County include Hampshire, Santa Fe, Theta, Water Valley, Culleoka and Williamsport.
Columbia Academy has collected more than 1 million cans of food since 1992, thanks to its annual Junior Civitan Can Food Drive. The school collected more than 100,000 cans in both 2005 and 2006.
Maury County is home to NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Sterling Marlin as well as Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers music fame. It’s also the childhood home of Lynnette Cole, Miss USA 2000.
The Maury County business community recognizes hundreds of farmers each February at an annual Farm City Breakfast.
The welcome sign to Columbia used to refer to the city as the “Dimple of the Universe.”
