Columbia Businessman Collects Old Fords

David Taylor Ford Collection

David Taylor’s Ford collection, which includes about a dozen cars, is housed in a former Plymouth dealership.

Columbia businessman David Taylor has a thing for old Fords. In fact‚ he has collected so many that he purchased a former Plymouth dealership on Sixth Street to house them all.

“I’ve been interested in cars since I was a teenager‚” says Taylor‚ who owns David Taylor Construction. “I always liked old Fords. I guess I’m kind of an old geezer.”

Taylor estimates he has between 12 and 14 cars in his collection‚ mostly from the 1950s and ’60s. He recently sold a model of Andy Griffith’s sheriff’s car.

“Sometimes I sell them‚ but usually I keep them and do restorations on them‚” he says.

Taylor’s collection includes Ford 427s‚ Galaxies‚ Fairlanes‚ Mustangs and a 1955 Crown Victoria.

“My favorite is probably my 427 Fairlane‚ because it’s kind of rare‚” Taylor says. “It was one of Ford’s finest.”

Taylor and his wife‚ Barrie‚ purchased the Plymouth dealership 11 years ago to house the collection. The building is now called David’s Old Fords.

“My wife likes old cars‚ too‚” he says with a chuckle‚ “but I don’t really know if she likes it as much or just endures it.”

After they purchased the dealership‚ the Taylors installed a soda fountain in the building. In addition to housing Taylor’s car museum‚ the building is used for church and community events.
